Introduction to Green Economy for South Africa

What is this course about?

The course is comprised of 5 modules that cover the following topics:

  • Introduction to a green economy: rationale and related concepts;
  • Enabling conditions for advancing a green economy;
  • National and international initiatives and support to advance a green economy;
  • Strategies for developing a balanced and inclusive green economy;
  • Challenges, opportunities and intervention options for greening the economy in key economic sectors.

It will require a total of 50 learning hours, requiring a minimum of approximately 5-7 hours of study per week over a 10 week period.

Is this course for you?

If you are a mid-career individual who is interested in obtaining a general understanding of the green economy concepts, as well as how green economy issues relate to your professional work, this course is for you. It does not matter whether you are a civil servant in a national and provincial department or a local authorities, an environmental manager or specialist in private sector and civil society organizations; an academic staff member, researcher or student; or an interested member of the public.

Course Entry Requirements

To enrol for this course, you need a Grade 12 certificate as a minimum. It would also be to your benefit if you have a relevant tertiary education, basic knowledge of and relevant experience in a field related to environmental management. However, you would be able to successfully complete the course in the absence of the latter.
